Association News - Proposed changes to the Workers Compensation Board in Alberta could add hundreds of millions in employer-borne costs .

The Association of Canadian Search, Employment and Staffing Services will take part in Alberta business communities' opposition to proposed changes to the Workers Compensation Board in Alberta. The proposed reforms, unveiled last week by Human Resources and Employment Minister Clint Dunford, include the creation of a new tribunal to re-evaluate old rejected claims, changes to the appeal commission and the creation of a new Workers' Compensation Authority. While the extent of increased costs resulting from tribunal decisions are unknown, experts anticipate increased benefit costs could range from $50 million to $250 million.

The Alberta government plans extensive consultations with industry groups on the proposed changes in early September. ACSESS will take part in the consultation process this fall.
